About this piece

A cropped ribbed tank cut with a square neckline — a shape that flatters nearly everyone because it widens the line at the collarbone and drops the eye to the waist. The rib is fine, the stretch runs both ways, and the hem is finished with a firm band so it does not creep upward after an hour of wearing it.

Fabric and feel

A fine-rib knit with two-way stretch and a matte hand that stays cool against the skin. Fine ribs are the reason this tank looks neat rather than bulky: a wide rib on a cropped body reads cheap quickly, while a narrow one lets the fabric mould to the figure without bunching. The knit has been rested before cutting so the ribs sit vertically and stay vertical, which is not guaranteed at this price.

Cut and fit

Cropped at the natural waist with a straight body and a fixed strap width, so the neckline does not slide outward during the day. The square neck is cut wide enough to show the collarbone and deep enough to sit clear of a necklace. Under the bust the shaping is worked into the knit rather than added as darts, which keeps the front clean and stops the fabric from pulling into points across the chest.

The hem is why this one works

A cropped tank lives or dies on its bottom edge. Ours is finished with a two-centimetre ribbed band that has slightly less stretch than the body, so the hem grips instead of curling. That single detail is what keeps the tank sitting at your waist rather than riding up under a jacket or cardigan. It also means the crop reads as intentional layering length rather than as fabric that has crept upward.

Sizing notes from the studio

Model is 172 cm and wears S/M. This is a two-size garment: S/M covers roughly a UK 6 to 10 and M/L covers 12 to 16, and the knit gives about eight centimetres of comfortable stretch across the bust. If you are between the two, look at the bust measurement in the chart rather than the label, and choose the size where your figure sits nearest the middle. Measurement points and tolerance are listed below the chart.

Gripping hem band

A lower-stretch rib at the hem keeps the crop from riding up under layers.

Square neckline

Wide enough to frame the collarbone, cut clear of a necklace.

Fine rib, rested before cutting

Ribs stay vertical and parallel rather than drifting across the body.

How we would wear it

  1. Layered and open

Wear it under an unbuttoned overshirt; the hem holds the layer line clean.

  2. With wide-leg trousers

The crop plus a high waist lengthens the leg line considerably.

  3. Under a knit

A fine tank under a chunky cardigan keeps the neckline tidy.

  4. Warm-weather single layer

On its own with drawstring shorts and flat sandals.

Care

Hand wash cold or use a mesh bag on a delicate cycle, and never wring the knit. Lay flat to dry in the shade — hanging a cropped tank by its straps while wet is how straps stretch out of shape. The hem band recovers on its own; do not iron it flat or you will remove the grip that keeps the tank in place. Wash with similar colours for the first few cycles.

Questions we get asked

It is cut to finish at the natural waist, so with a high-waisted bottom the tank meets the waistband with no gap and no overlap.

Match the bust measurement in the chart, not a UK size label. The knit carries roughly eight centimetres of comfortable stretch, so choose the size where your figure sits in the middle of the range.

Yes, and the gripping hem is designed for exactly that: it stays down under an open shirt or cardigan instead of bunching at the ribs.
